Dr Byram Bridle: How Covid-19 vaccines affect infection rates in highly vaccinated populations

Dr Byram Bridle, PhD, Viral Immunologist & Associate Professor at the University of Guelph shares with members of the public in America why infection rates are higher in countries with more vaccinated in the population.

Vaccine-induced Covid-19 viral immunity is not present in the cell lining of the upper airways (nose, throat, trachea) but is present in all other parts of the body instead. Therefore, they are likely to be carrying the viruses in their upper airways yet have minimal symptoms as the virus is well neutralized in the bloodstream of the vaccinated person. This results in greater numbers of asymptomatic spreaders within the community who are more likely to be exempted from regular ART/PCR testing.
